  • RCS BUS CRASHES ON ICY OVERPASS

(Richmond, IN)–There’s been an accident involving a school bus and an SUV.  It happened at around 6:35 Tuesday morning on the North 9thStreet overpass over the Depot District in Richmond.  The bus was a Richmond Community School bus that was not carrying any children at the time.  The overpass had to be completely shut down in both directions.  The driver of the bus and the driver of the SUV were both taken to Reid Hospital to be treated for non-life-threatening injuries.  Eastbound I-70 had to be shut down near the Round Barn Road overpass at about the same time. Crews had to shut the highway down to remove a car after a non-injury slide-off accident.

  • TEEN BECOMES SIXTH SHOOTING VICTIM IN A WEEK AND A HALF

    reid shoot
(Richmond, IN)–A teenager Monday became the sixth person to be shot in Richmond in the last week and a half.  At around 3:30 Monday afternoon, a 17-year-old boy was driven to Reid Hospital with a gunshot wound to the upper leg.  Initial reports indicated that the shooting occurred not far from where four men were shot last Thursday.  The teen’s injuries were considered non-life-threatening.  No suspect information has been released.  The shooting was discovered when a car sped away from the scene of a hit-and-run accident involving a scooter.  About an hour before that shooting was discovered, police responded to a shots fired call near the Parc Lorraine Apartments on South 52nd Street.  No injuries were reported there.  The four men who were shot last weekend have now all be released from Reid.  RPD kept an officer posted at Reid to make sure no violence broke out between friends and family members of T.O. Bennett and Frank Deloney.  Visitation by families to other patients completely removed from the shooting was also restricted.  Investigators are not saying whether or not they believe the two most recent shootings are retaliatory in nature for the murder of Joey Dawkins on Sheridan Street in Richmond on April 4.

  • COUPLE FOUND INCOHERENT WITH SCREAMING BABY IN BACK SEAT

(Fayette County, IN)–Two people were in jail Tuesday after they were found passed out in the middle of a Fayette County road with a screaming baby in the back seat of their car.  Deputies were called to Alquina Road where 27-year-old Valerie Cope of Brookville and 30-year-old Dustin Combs were incoherent.  Inside, police found a syringe, a pipe, and a baggy of marijuana.  The baby was released to one of Cope’s family members.

(Richmond, IN)–One Richmond restaurant is out and another is coming in.  Crews worked Monday to remove equipment from Ritter’s Frozen Custard on East Main.  Ritter’s closed last fall and will not re-open.  Jimmy John’s is coming to Richmond.  City officials said that no permits have been filed that would reveal a location. Right now, the closest Jimmy John’s to Richmond is in Oxford.
